Editing
Perhaps you have written an incredibly compelling story, but unfortunately you missed a few typos. Hey, we are all human, it happens. That is one of the many reasons why it is important to have your work professionally edited. Editors catch typos and mistakes like Mr. Miyagi catches flies with chopsticks. It is simply incredible.
Not only do they catch typos, but they work to make sure your storyline makes sense and that character development flows. How weird would it have been if all of a sudden Hermione didn't like school and threw away all of her books? It would never happen. Yet we authors sometimes make slip ups like that, and that is why we have editors.
Additionally, we can potentially include betta readers into your contract. These are people who read your story from a readers perspective, which is more for an enjoyment than a typical editor, and can tell you if your story makes sense, what you could change, and what was phenomenal. Typically authors like to have their friends and family read their book as a betta reader, but if you don't fall into this category no worries, we've got you covered.

Formatting
Many new authors do not know that their book needs to be formatted in certain ways in order for the book to publish correctly, regardless if it is an e-book or a print copy. If it is not formatted correctly page numbers will not line up properly, chapters will be disheveled, and the reader will most likely not want to continue reading because of the mess.
This is why formatting is critical to the success of a book.
There are several ways a book can be formatted. From standard to large print, to book trim size, and everything in-between, we want to make sure your book is published without a hitch. No one wants a bad review on a remarkable story just because the formatting was off. You poured your heart and soul into your book, and we want that to be the showcase for those reading your book.

Cover Design
Have you ever been scrolling for a book online, or perhaps in a book store, and particular covers just catch your eye? While it is true that we should not judge a book by its cover, the fact of the matter is that most readers will make a quick decision on if they want to read what your book is about or go on to the next book that has the more intriguing cover.
While the meat of the story is of course the most important part to get a reader coming back to your books for more, it is the cover that gets them to come at all in the first place.
We want you to have phenomenal covers, which is why we have a team of people who work to develop a cover design for you. How many redesigns, variations to choose from, and what is available will be determined within your contract that you sign with Spencer Publishing, LLC should you choose to work with us, and vice versa.

Are you ready to publish your book? This is a list of what Spencer Publishing, LLC will and will not do as a publishing company for publishing your book.
What Spencer Publishing, LLC will do:
- We can provide an ISBN through our small press publishing company.
- We can provide basic formatting of the finished manuscript in paperback and digital format (including MOBI, EPUB, and PDF) at a nominal cost to the author.
- We can provide access to paid editing services at costs negotiated between the author, editor, and Spencer Publishing, LLC. Costs will be determined after the editor has evaluated the full manuscript and estimated how much work will be involved in editing and proofreading. A quote for services will be provided by the editor and no editing will commence until at which time the author has agreed in writing to pay for the editing. This cost will be charged from Spencer Publishing, LLC to the author. Note: in order to use an ISBN through Spencer Publishing, LLC, you must use editing services through this system and your manuscript must meet quality and content standards.
- We can provide access to paid cover design services at costs negotiated between the author, editor, and Spencer Publishing, LLC. Costs will be determined after cover designer has evaluated the amount of time required to provide the cover appropriate for the genre of book to be published and artistic direction from the author. A quote for services will be provided by the cover designer and no designing will commence until at which time the author has agreed in writing to pay for the cover design. This cost will be charged from Spencer Publishing, LLC to the author. The cover designer will work with the author directly and will give author one round of revisions at no additional cost.
- We will provide you with yearly reports of your sales by giving you exactly what Amazon gives us. You will see exactly how many books you’ve sold every single day. We won’t hide sales data from you.
- We will split royalties 50/50 and pay your royalties at the end of the calendar year in the month following the date that Amazon pays us, which is almost two months after royalties are earned. For example, final royalties earned between December 1-31st were paid to Spencer Publishing, LLC on February 28th. We will pay royalties to the authors as soon as possible approximately ten business days after that. That would be first or second week of April. Alternately, through our coaching program we can teach you how to publish on your own and receive royalties monthly from Amazon directly.
- We will provide complete transparency to the extent of the information provided to us from Amazon. If there is a particular report you’d like to see, we’ll try to find it for you.
- We will publish your book on Amazon as a paperback and Kindle file. There is an option to make your book available in Kindle Unlimited but there are pages and pages of legal restrictions in Amazon’s Terms of Service that you will need to agree to. There are other publishing platforms that are available, and you have the legal right to publish your book on other platforms (if your book is not featured in Kindle Unlimited), but Spencer Publishing, LLC will not be pursuing any other publishing platforms at this time. Those services may become available as our company grows.
What Spencer Publishing, LLC will NOT do:
- We will not charge you to publish your book. Any publishing company asking you to pay for them to publish your book is not a publishing company; they are a vanity press.
- We will not retain any rights to your intellectual property. You wrote your words, and they belong to you as the author. All we are doing is putting your words into a publishable format and making them available for sale on Amazon.com. You will be given a final digital copy in the following formats: Microsoft Word file, MOBI (Kindle) file, Adobe PDF, and EPUB file. They are yours to be used as you choose forevermore.
- We will not guarantee even a single sale. Sales and promotions are up to you as the author. All we are doing is making them available for sale on Amazon.com
- We will not require you to purchase even a single book. If you want paperback copies of your book, they will be made available to you at a wholesale price. There will be a nominal service charge every time you want to order more books at the wholesale rate. Alternately, you can pay full price for your books through Amazon.
- We will not pay you an upfront bonus. If your book sells, we will pay you a royalty on every single sale.
- We will not guarantee any advertising. This may change in the future as our company grows, but at this time there is no one on our staff who will be charged with the task of conducting advertising campaigns.
- We will not guarantee your book will be featured on our website or social media accounts. That is left to our discretion. If your book is featured on our website at www.spencerpublishingllc.com, all royalties will be paid at the same split as if they were sold on Amazon.com
